A soft, light and fluffy eggnog cinnamon roll recipe that will give Cinnabon a run for their money! These eggnog spiced cinnamon rolls are the perfect treat for Christmas morning breakfast!

Hey girl hey! Whether you’re a student fighting through finals or working a big girl job rounding out the busiest time of the year, I hope you’re taking a few days to feel the holiday spirit! For the first time all year I have pretty much been turning down projects in my efforts to take it easy for a few weeks leading up to Christmas! We had some family stay with us this past week and it is really starting to feel like the holiday season around here. We also managed to get our tree up!

We didn’t have a ton of family traditions growing up around the holidays but I did always love decorating the tree. My Mom usually just put out all the ornament boxes and let me run free. Bless my parents and their natural ways of instilling creativity on me lol. Tree decorating is one of my favorite traditions that I have around Christmas time. Jared and I take a Saturday or Sunday and pick out the tree. We then pull out all of the ornaments and order in lasagna from a local Italian place in Old Towne. He puts up the lights and I do all the ornaments, all while enjoying a bottle of wine. Each international trip we take we try and bring home a bottle of wine or champagne and we break it out during Christmas time to enjoy. It’s cheesy and a nice way to reminisce about the year.

Aside from decorating the tree, Christmas eve night and Christmas morning are my FAV! Each of the days just ooze with coziness.

This Christmas morning I am busting out the pomegranate mimosas and these eggnog cinnamon rolls with spiced frosting! Christmas mornings are for extremely cute pajamas, cinnamon rolls and unwrapping presents with the fam… in my opinion. These cinnamon rolls may just be the most fluffiest, softest, gooiest cinnamon rolls with the creamiest icing ever! The dough is spiced up with a eggnog right into the batter and rolled into cinnamon sugar heaven. The icing is my favorite! You can never have enough icing for cinnamon rolls, it’s the best part! The icing is spiced with warm spices, far too much butter and creamy eggnog for a holiday flavor flare. I promise the first bite you take into one of these that there is no going back! When Abbie and I shot these in my office we were literally eating them over the set after we finished shooting them, they were THAT GOOD.

This Christmas morning make your family a cinnamon roll that will warm them up instantly!

Eggnog Cinnamon Rolls with Spiced Frosting

Prep Time20 minutes
Servings: 8

ingredients

  • For Rolls
  • 1 cup warm egg nog
  • 2 eggs room temperature slightly beaten
  •  cup butter melted
  • cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 packet of yeast
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp of ground nutmeg
  •  cup butter softened
  • For Frosting
  • ½ cup of salted butter
  • 8 oz Cream cheese
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 Teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup of egg nog
  • cup of  confectioners/Powdered sugar

instructions

  • Dissolve yeast into warm eggnog. While yeast is dissolving combine white sugar, butter, salt, and eggs into a large bowl. Mix in two cups of flour, and then mix in yeast + egg nog mixture. Mix in remaining flour until dough is easy to handle. The dough should be elastic but not sticky. Sprinkle flour over a large surface and knead for 5-10 minutes. Place in a large well-greased bowl (I sprayed mine with Pam) and cover with two clean dish towels without touching the dough. Place in a dry area for an hour to double in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Punch down the dough and roll out into a large 15×9 rectangle on a floured surface. Spread evenly with softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Very gently roll dough together. Cut slices about 1 1/2 inches thick and arrange close together in a greased casserole dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until lightly golden.

For icing:

  • In a large bowl fitted with a hand or standing mixer add in room temp butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract. Beat for 2-3 minutes. Add in 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time and 1 tablespoon of eggnog after every sugar addition. Add in cinnamon and nutmeg last to your taste. Smother onto warm cinnamon rolls!

  1. Thank you for this yummy recipe! Just made it for Christmas morning and it was a huge hit! I will say that I only made half the amount of frosting and it was more than enough to smother the whole dish of rolls and then some. 🙂 Merry Christmas!

Thanks for posting, but there are several errors in this recipe. Examples:

When you call for adding the yeast + water mixture (which is not a step prior to that step) followed by stirring in the “warm milk”.
When you call for adding in salt, cinnamon and nutmeg to the icing mixture, despite those not being listed ingredients for the icing.
You do not tell at what temperature these should be baked.

you'll love these...
