This Frozen Strawberry Margarita recipe is SO addicting, each sip is incredibly smooth and filled with bright strawberry flavor with the most subtle hint of tequila. They truly taste like an adult summer slushy and they’re made with only four simple ingredients (you won’t find a can of limeade here!) and under 200 calories a serving!
Save this recipe for Cinco de Mayo to serve with guacamole, chipotle chicken nachos and Mexican fruit salad.
Why you’ll love this blended strawberry margarita
Extremely addicting and incredibly smooth! It’s no secret that I love a margarita, but this is one of those cocktails that when you get to the last sip you just KNOW that you’re going to make another batch. Although a classic on the rocks margarita is my go-to, I deem these margaritas dangerous because they’re just so darn delicious.
Insanely easy to make! If you love ordering a frozen strawberry margarita at your fav Mexican restaurant, these are for you. They come together quickly in just one blender and will be ready before you can say, fiesta! Scale the recipe up or down, depending on how many lucky sippers you have coming over.
Great party cocktail to have on hand! Whether you’re making enchiladas for two or having a party with a wide assortment of Mexican corn in a cup and Mexican snack platter, this is one of those party cocktails you want to have stashed away in your repertoire. Your friends will go crazy for them and you can even swap out the strawberries for any other type of fruit (hello, raspberry margaritas), depending on what you’re craving.

How to make a frozen strawberry margarita recipe from scratch:

- Enjoy: Serve in a large margarita glass with a salted rim and lime wheel to garnish.
Favorite snacks to pair with a margarita
- Green Chili Queso
- Guacamole for a Crowd
- Mexican Fruit Salad with Chili Lime Seasoning
- Jacuzzi Chipotle Chicken Nachos
Make ahead and freezing instructions
Blend the strawberry margarita mix one day in advance and stash it in a freezer-safe container in the freezer. The alcohol will never completely freeze, which keeps the mix at more of a slushy consistency. Just give it a quick blitz in your Vitamix or blender just before serving.
Recipe tips:
- To rim the glass, moisten the edge with a lime wedge and gently press the tip of the glass onto a plate lined with coarse or Kosher salt. Add a fun twist with chili lime salt by mixing 2 tablespoons salt, zest of 1/2 lime and a pinch of chili powder.
- For a bubbly twist, top off each individual margarita with 1/4 cup sparkling fruit juice or club soda.
Strawberry margarita FAQ
What is the difference between a frozen strawberry margarita and a strawberry daiquiri?
The difference between a margarita and a daiquiri is that daiquiri’s have rum! They have similar ingredients and are both very citrusy. Margaritas originated in Mexico and daiquiris came from Cuba!
What kind of tequila should I use in a frozen strawberry margarita?
For a blended margarita with lots of flavor and juice, I always use a tequila blanco. Mostly because the tequila is so masked by fruity flavor, so save the good stuff (like reposado) for sipping. Casamigos is my fav tequila – it’s a bit pricey but worth it.
Frozen strawberry margaritas with simple syrup or agave nectar?
As far as a sweetener goes, you can use simple syrup, which is just equal parts water and sugar boiled down or you can use agave nectar, a classic sweetener in most margaritas. That being said, you can totally leave the sweetener out if you prefer a tartier/lighter calorie cocktail.
Do I need Triple Sec for margaritas?
I highly recommend adding the triple sec or Cointreau to your margaritas! Triple sec (aka orange liquor) is added into most classic margarita recipes and adds a lovely citrus flavor to the cocktail.

This is my first time making strawberry margaritas at home. My husband and I both love them!
We have had regular and strawberry margaritas only in a restaurant prior to this experience.
After much research on Agave Tequila, we stumbled on your recipe. Thank you for giving us a high quality, more healthy version of a delightful, enjoyable cocktail for us!
Hi Elizabeth, looking forward to making this! I know you list 3 options but can you tell me which one is your favorite with these? Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier? Thanks!
I’m usually a cointreau girl 🙂 I find it’s the lightest, cleanest flavor for most margs but I love grand marnier for something more decadent. Triple sec is most economical if you’re making bit batches!
I’m normally a regular frozen marg kind of girl but I had a bag of frozen strawberries so I gave these a try. So fun, beautiful color, and were delicious. I’m adding those into my regular summer cocktail rotation for sure! Thanks!!
These margaritas are the perfect cure for the summer heat wave blues. Living in SoCal it’s not uncommon for summer days to reach the triple digits and i find myself craving cold beverages often, I have attempted to make blended margaritas before and the ice to fruit ratio always seems off and they never have the right consistency. This recipe is everything I have ever dreamed of in a blended margarita. It had that made at home with love taste and the agave elevated the flavor to perfection. I have already made these twice and cant wait to try them with other fruit!
This recipe is super easy and soooo delicious! I’ve never tried to make frozen margaritas at home — for some reason, it always intimidated me — but this was so easy! I also love the fact that you can take the recipe and switch it up and maybe add raspberry or another fruit. I will definitely be making these often throughout summer 2020.
Girl, yes! I am so happy you are getting your frozen cocktail on all summer long. Cheers!
Can’t stop making these.. Such a good recipe and simple enough to make on a weeknight!
I could not agree more! It is now a weeknight staple here too 🙂
SO tasty! Easy to make and perfect for summer!
Totally agree! These will be on repeat all summer long!
These are perfect! Agree tres amigos makes all the difference!
Nice! So happy you enjoyed!
These were absolutely delicious. So fresh and the perfect amount of sweetness. This recipe will definitely be a staple for me!
Amazing! Sometimes I don’t even add sweetener because they’re so fruity on their own. But agreed, I hate a cocktail that’s too sweet!
Very easy to make and super fresh using real strawberries vs. some store bought mix. Also, nice alcohol amounts – just enough to get a little buzz 😉
Yassss! Alcohol ratio is one of my most important things when it comes to recipe developing lol it’s gotta taste good and feel good.
Delish!
Thank you Haley!
So quick and easy!
My kind of cocktail! Thanks Hailey!
I’ve made this 2 times already and my husband and I love it! I’ve sent the recipe to all my friends already!
Oh that is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing, cheers!

Thank you so much Caroline! I can imagine these are perfection in the desert.
Delish! I tweaked a bit to make a single quarantine marg but it was super delicious!
I do the same thing sometimes when I’m craving one! Enjoy 🙂
Made these for cinco de Mayo and even my husband who isn’t a big drinker LOVED them! Will definitely be making these on the regular during the summer ☀️

Best margaritas I’ve EVER made! We’ve done two batches now. It’s incredible! Tastes way better than any I’ve gotten in a restaurant.
Oh my life Abbey! Music to my ears! You can def make restaurant style margs right in your kitchen, cheers!
