Some of my favorite summer evenings consist of wearing my favorite sundress and eating a grilled fish dinner with plenty of margaritas, ya feel me?

By the time dessert rolls around I don’t even want to have to THINK about my next move, and that is what is SO great about this peach cobbler.

I mean this is the epitome of after-dinner summer dessert. You can whip this cobbler up in no time at all and not miss a moment of that lazy summer evening on the patio.

I firmly believe desserts that taste this delicious and come together in 10 minutes, or less should win a lifetime achievement award.

This old fashioned peach cobbler is made with fresh peaches and 5 other basic pantry ingredients for the topping and the filling. By the time it’s finished baking, your peaches are swimming in a bubbly, cinnamon sugar sauce that pairs so beautifully with creamy vanilla ice cream.

Let’s talk topping: This easy cobbler topping comes together in about 2 minutes and tastes like a chewy, half baked snickerdoodle cookie. The bottom sticks to the peaches and soaks up all the peach flavor, while the top remains buttery, crisp and cookie-like.

SAVE this recipe for your next bbq. Better yet, buy some peaches the next time you’re at the store. I promise you need this in your summer life!

Step by step process on how to make the peach filling and topping for peach cobbler.

How do you make an old fashioned peach cobbler from scratch?

I adore this peach cobbler recipe for its simplicity.

  1. Pit and slice your peaches. I leave the skin on for a rustic flare and I think it tastes great with or with them.
  2. Toss your peaches with cinnamon, sugar and a little butter if they aren’t super ripe.
  3. Top the peaches with the easy cobbler topping (it tastes like a snickerdoodle!).
  4. Bake for 20 minutes at 375 F and serve with plenty of vanilla ice cream!

Can I make the cobbler with canned peaches…

Using canned peaches in this cobbler is probably not the best idea.

They are already very soft from being soaked in the can that they will turn extremely mushy once the cobbler is baked. Using fresh peaches will release better flavor and withstand being baked a whole lot better!

How do you know when peach cobbler is done

Your old fashioned peach cobbler is done when the juices are bubbling on the sides of the pan and the top is a nice golden brown color.

About 20-25 minutes of cooking is perfect depending on your oven.

  • Add peaches, sugar, and cinnamon to a large casserole or baking dish. Dollop peaches evenly with butter cubes.
  • In a separate bowl mix, melted butter, sugar, all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt together until a cookie batter type dough starts to form.
  • Clump together the batter and spread evenly over the top of the cobbler.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the sides are bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  • Allow cobbler to cool for 15-20 minutes to set and serve with vanilla ice cream or whip cream.

notes

Ripe Peaches: If your peaches are very ripe and juicy, you may not need the extra butter dolloped on top. This helps create more juices if your peaches aren't all the way ripe.

Too much cinnamon, overpowered the peaches. Would not make this again

Too much cinnamon in this recipe. Would not make it again.

  3. Made this today with my home frozen fresh peaches. I thawed them and because they were very juicy I did not add the extra butter on the top. When freezing the peaches I had already added sugar and lemon juice to preserve the color.
The cookie topping was delicious. I baked it an extra 30 minutes because of the juice or until the dough turned golden brown. Everyone really enjoyed the dessert. I’ll definitely make it again.

This was so good! I swapped the white sugar for brown, and I added pecans and sliced almonds. Next time, I’m going to add oats😍😍

  5. Really tasty, 2nd time around I added a touch of cardamom and almond extract – so good!
