Why You’ll Love These Christmas Games + Activities
My favorite part of the Christmas holiday is making memories with the people I love. Whether we’re baking together, watching movies, or talking around the table – I cherish every moment. However, I especially love a designated holiday activity!
Today I’m going to share my top 3 favorite activities that are perfect for Christmas. I’ve played these with my family and friends and they always get the party going.
Also, because I can’t not, I’m going to share some food + drink suggestions to serve at your holiday gathering. I hope you enjoy!
Christmas Tray Game
This is such a nostalgic game for me – and it’s so easy to play! You don’t even need to go out and get extra supplies or prepare any materials. My mom always used to play this with us on holidays and it got everyone of all ages super involved and competitive.
All you do is collect some random household items – the more random and abstract the better! – and put them on a large-ish tray. Set the tray out for everyone to see and set a timer for one minute. After the time goes off, you hide the tray away and give everyone 30 seconds to write down as many items as they can remember.
Whoever has the most correct items wins a prize, or bragging rights until the next year’s game.
Candy Cane Game
This game always gets laughs! Tie a piece of yarn (or something similar) around your waist with an extra long piece hanging down between your legs. Tie a candy cane to the hanging part of the yarn and then using your hips to create momentum, swing the candy cane to hook and remove other candy canes that are in cups on the floor.
Multiple people should be swinging at once so it’s like a race. Everyone will be laughing at (and probably recording) how funny everyone looks frantically trying to swing the candy cane around with only their hips.
And again, this game doesn’t require many supplies at all! A couple of cups, yarn, and candy canes!
Painting Party
This activity does require some supplies and preparation, but I think it’s worth it. It’s always fun to express one’s creativity in a fun and supportive space.
Choose any Christmas/holiday-related painting for inspiration and then have everyone paint their own interpretation of it. Drink, eat, and be merry as you paint! This activity gives everyone something to focus on which tends to open people up to more meaningful conversation.
You can make this a competition if you want, but I prefer it when it’s a peaceful activity. It can also be a year-round thing catered to different holidays and times of the year!
Christmas Party Treats
What’s a fun Christmas activity without some delicious snacks and drinks to go along with it?! Here are some festive cocktails, yummy appetizers, and sweet treats to sustain you as you’re busy celebrating with loved ones.
- Start with some appetizers! Nothing hits better at a holiday party than munching on as many air fryer pigs in a blanket as you can manage – and it’s a total bonus that they’re easy to make!
- Want a charcuterie vibe? Try these charcuterie bites! They have all the flavors of a cheese board in one delicious bite.
- Now let’s focus on what’s really important: cheese. This pomegranate Christmas cheese ball will be a crowd-pleaser, that’s for sure.
- As for drinks, I always suggest a hot chocolate bar for a holiday party. That way everyone can make their own mug just the way they like it.
- If you’re looking for a cocktail, I highly suggest this big batch of my favorite cranberry gin cocktail. You can prepare it all in one fell swoop and not have to worry about it the rest of the party.
- As for sweets, you can’t go wrong with puppy chow (or muddy buddies). This recipe is a Christmas puppy chow with peppermint bark mixed in and it’s oh-so-delish!
- A little drink-dessert combo is this delightful gingerbread affogato. Coffee, ice cream, and gingerbread – what could be better?!
