Why you’ll love jalapeno mango margarita

Spicy and sweet! Talk about a margarita recipe that is perfectly balanced. First you get the sweetness of the mango (similar to these Frozen Mango Margaritas), then the heat of the jalapeno chili peppers hits your palate for a nice bite. One sip and you’ll keep going back for more.

Beautifully smooth! The trick to making perfect margaritas is using the right set of ingredients. First, find a tequila that you love and stick with it. Second, seek out mango nectar, which is a sweet, thick, almost puree-like juice that mixes so well in the cocktail. A few more classics from the bar cart and you are goldenliterally!

Perfect for a fiesta! Grab all your gals and guys and get to sipping on this spicy mango cocktail at your next Cinco de Mayo celebration, or anytime you want to celebrate fiesta style. Plus, you guys know how much I love my margs and guacamole, so I have plenty of salty snacks to go with this one (but we’ll get to that in a sec).

Ingredients

This spicy mango cocktail requires just a few fresh and bar cart worthy ingredients. We will need:

  • Jalapeno
  • Tequila blanco
  • Orange liqueur
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Mango nectar
  • Tajin
  • Fresh mango cubes

Measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Notes and substitutions:

  • Jalapeno: Look for plump and glossy jalapeno peppers, or go for fresh and fruity fresno chile peppers. Keep the seeds and ribs intact for an even spicier kick.
  • Tequila: I love a tequila blanco (or silver tequila) for it’s lighter and brighter flavor, as opposed to reposado, or gold tequila. My favorites are Casamigos and Alto’s.
  • Mango nectar: Look for mango nectar in the juice aisle of any major grocery store or smaller Spanish markets. Goya is a great brand.
  • Tajin: Pick up a bottle of tajin or use your favorite chili salt for the rim.

How to make

Spicy mango margaritas are just a few minutes away after some muddling and a good shake in your favorite cocktail shaker. Simply:

Mix mango margarita: Add half of the jalapeno slices to a cocktail shaker and muddle together until crushed. Add in tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, mango nectar and fill the shaker with ice.

Shake: Shake together for 15-20 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker is icy.

Garnish: Rim a low glass lip with lime juice and dip into tajin, shake off and fill with ice. Strain margarita over the glass and garnish with fresh mango chunks and thinly sliced jalapenos.

Serving suggestions

This spicy mango margarita recipe would not be complete without a full spread of Mexican-inspired snacks and food. I love to serve these with:

Recipe variations:

  • Grill the jalapeno peppers. Give it an extra layer of char flavor – but only do so if you have the time!
  • Swap out the mango for pineapple instead. Use pineapple juice and fresh pineapple cubes – delicious!
  • If you can’t find tajin, make your own blend of chili powder and coarse sea salt for the rim.
