My dear friend and I had a girls party a few nights ago (which is always an excuse to make sangria). She had two requirements sweet tasting + sugar rim.
If you love being the bartender at a party name the drink after your friend who’s throwing it, its a great touch! This sangria may look light and fruity but it’s got a swift punch to it. After two mason jars filled we were all feeling it.
*Warning* make sure you let the batch simmer in the fridge for an hour or so or it can taste a little strong right off that bat!
Sparkling Lemonade Sangria
1 Bottle (750 ml) of moscato wine
1 1/2 Cups of sparkling pink or regular lemonade
1 Cup of vodka (I usually use titos vodka)
1/4 Cup simple syrup
1 Lemon sliced
1 Lime sliced
1 1/2 Cup strawberries quartered
1 Cup of blackberries halved
10 Fresh mint leaves torn
lemon juice + turbinado sugar for glass rim
Run a lemon wedge along the rim of a glass. Pour 1/2 cup of turbinado sugar on a plate and rim your glass. Fill with ice.
In a large pitcher (I used a large mason jar) fill with fruits, wine, simple syrup, mint and sparkling lemonade. Mix well. *Do not add ice (it will water down your sangria)
Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator to develop a stronger flavor and allow the fruit to soak up the sangria mixture. Serve over ice + sugar rimmed glass for a classic Chaya.
**Turbinado sugar can be found at the grocery store usually near the coffee flavorings
Simple syrup is equal parts sugar + water boiled down, you can see HERE !
