This cocktail is very spirit forward, so you will want to use a high quality whiskey or bourbon.

Bulleit:
Is a great medium priced, smooth finishing bourbon with notes of maple, oak and nutmeg.
Woodford Reserve:
Is great when I want the drink to have a more high quality taste.
What does smash mean in a drink or cocktail?
A smash is a variation of a julep. Basically you are taking your spirit, sugar, and fruit and muddling together until the juices have been released. They are usually poured over ice and garnished with mint or ingredients used in the cocktail.
Can I use a different berry?
Totally! I love blackberries for fall cocktails because they are a little darker and moodier.
You could also use raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries.
If you love berry cocktails, try my spirit forward strawberry whiskey sour!
Ice tips for cocktails:
For this cocktail I blended regular ice cubes in a blender to create a really lovely, light snow cone type of ice texture for this cocktail.
You could also use crushed ice from the refrigerator or self crush it in a ziplock bag.
