Say hello to Negroni Spritz, the sparkling, lighter and refreshing version of the classic negroni cocktail! Serve it pitcher-style for a crowd or make it for one, both recipes are included with this beauty!
Why you’ll love negroni spritzer
A delicious mistake! Negroni is an Italian cocktail made with equal parts Campari, gin and sweet vermouth, but this take on a negroni sbagliato recipe is a mistake made by an Italian bartender we can all feel good about (‘sbagliato’ translates to ‘bungled’ or ‘mistaken’).
Bittersweet! A Campari and gin cocktail can be a bit too bitter for some, which is why this negroni spritz offers the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. The fresh orange juice rounds out the sharp alcohol punch and you get a little effervescence from the sparkling wine. What a beaut!
Easily serves a crowd! Whether you are looking to serve a group of friends at your next party or just need a little more sparkle in your life, you get two recipes for the price of one! Make a batch in a pitcher or serve it on the rocks as a treat-yourself moment we all need.
Ingredients
Whether you are making this in a pitcher or just for one, the list of ingredients remains the same. We will need:
- Fresh Cara Cara or blood orange juice
- Gin
- Sweet red vermouth
- Campari
- Prosecco
- Orange slices
Measurements for both the pitcher and glass-style can be found in the recipe card below.
Ingredient notes & substitutions:
- Orange Juice: About 3-4 oranges will yield 1 cup juice. I like Cara Cara or blood oranges to compliment the Campari, but regular oranges will work, too.
- Gin: Go for your favorite gin. I used Aviation, which is an American Gin, but London dry gin like Bombay Sapphire, Beefeater or Tanqueray, or Hendrick’s would be just as delicious.
- Prosecco: Italian sparkling wine is the star ingredient here, so pick up your favorite bottle.
- Garnish: Finish with some fresh orange slices, twist of orange peel or a sprig of fresh basil for that iconic Italian flair.
How to make
This negroni spritzer couldn’t be any easier. All you have to do is stir the ingredients together and serve over ice. Here’s how to do it:
Squeeze oranges: Freshly squeeze your Cara Cara or blood orange juice, strain into a measuring glass and set aside.
Stir ingredients: In a large mixing glass or pitcher, add gin, sweet red vermouth, Campari and fresh orange juice. Stir together until well combined. Add in 2 cups of ice and stir together once more.
Pour and serve: Pour into 4 large or 6 smaller wine glasses and top with prosecco and an orange wedge. For single glass, pour all ingredients in a rocks glass filled with ice. Top with prosecco, an orange slice and enjoy!

If I am serving this at a party, I like to serve it with crunchy or savory snacks like Blue Cheese Fried Olives, Lemon Pepper Wings and Spicy Tuna Croquettes.

Make ahead instructions
You can easily make this cocktail ahead of time by mixing all the ingredients together in a pitcher, but refrain from adding the ice and Prosecco. Cover with plastic wrap and keep chilled in the fridge for 1-2 days.
Once ready to serve, add ice, gently mix, then pour into your cocktails glasses of choice and top with Prosecco.
Recipe tips & notes:
- Squeeze fresh oranges: This will give you the best and most pronounced citrus flavor.
- Stirred, not shaken: This recipe benefits from stirring rather than shaking as not to disrupt the bubbles in Prosecco.
- Buy a Prosecco split: When making this for one, pick up a few small Prosecco splits (6.3 oz / 187 ml). This way, you don’t have to open a whole 750ml bottle.
