Say hello to the new spritz in town: The Limoncello Spritz! This refreshing beverage is a sister cocktail to the traditional Aperol spritz. Each sip is smooth, sweet, refreshing and perfect for hot summer happy hours.

Easy to make with just limoncello, lemon juice, prosecco and club soda. Garnish it off with a fresh lemon slice and a sweet basil leaf.

Why you’ll love this limoncello spritz!

A lemon lovers dream. If you love lemon cocktails or lemon desserts (I’m a sucker for a lemon poppyseed loaf) then this cocktail is a must make for you! It’s bursting with lemon flavor from sweet limoncello and fresh lemon juice.

Simple to make! These are perfect for throwing together before happy hour. They come together with just four simple ingredients: lemon juice, limoncello, Prosecco and club soda!

A fun variation on the Aperol Spritz! If you love an aperol spritz then you certainly have to give this a try! Replace the Aperol with another favorite refreshing Italian liqueur.

Limoncello Spritz Ingredients

Fresh Lemon Juice

  • Freshly squeezed makes all the difference and brings out that lemon flavor! I love using meyer lemons when they are in season but regular will do the trick!

Limoncello

  • The main character in this limoncello spritz! A deliciously sweet, citrus Italian Liqueur.

Prosecco

  • Traditional Aperol Spritz’s are topped with bubbly Prosecco creating a crisp and effervescent taste in every sip.

Club Soda or Sparkling Water

  • This is optional it does help mellow out the flavors of the liqueur being used and adds extra bubbles!

What is limoncello?

Limoncello is a sweet Italian Liqueur that is often sipped after meals as a digestif. Limoncello is made by steeping lemon zest (peels) in vodka until the oils release. This yellow liquid is then mixed with simple syrup to balance the taste. Limoncello is a very sweet liqueur but still super refreshing.

It’s great served straight up or mixed in a cocktail like today’s spritz or in my limoncello martini recipe.

step by step process to make a limoncello spritz

How to make a limoncello spritz:

  1. Fill a large spritz glass with ice. Add in lemon juice, limoncello and stir together.
  2. Top with the prosecco and club soda if desired. Gently stir together.
  3. Garnish with fresh mint or basil and a lemon slice.

Limoncello Spritz with Vodka

If you want this spritz to be a bit of a stronger cocktail, try adding vodka into this mix. 1-2 oz will give the drink a bit of a kick and compliments the limoncello well because of it’s likely vodka base.
