Happy New Year! If you rang in the new year with a bit too much to drink, have no fear, I’ve got your bloody mary hangover cure! This recipe for bloody mary with seafood is made with a simple bloody mary mix, old bay salted rim, Hangar One Straight Vodka and topped with seafood garnish for that salty bite you’re craving from a hangover.
A big thank you to Hangar 1 Distillery for sponsoring this post and keeping The College Housewife up and running!
This year I’ll be spending New Year’s with my close family. We always spend the evening getting into a heated poker game and ring in midnight in a big corny family hug.
If you plan on ringing in the new year in a big way, hopefully with lots of champagne, then you will need an epic hair of the dog to keep the party rolling. If you needed any more reason, New Years Day is ALSO National Bloody Mary Day!
If you’re throwing a New Years’ brunch or party, a bloody mary bar is a great addition for your people!
The actual Bloody Mary mix is fairly simple, so feel free to get creative with all of your crazy garnishes!
It’s New Year’s, so we went a bit fancier with prawns and crab legs but you can stick to the classics with olives, lemons, and pickled vegetables.
In my bloody mary mix is tomato juice, fresh citrus juice (lemon or lime), Worcester sauce, hot sauce (optional), old bay seasoning and Hangar 1 Straight Vodka. I love using Hangar 1’s vodka because it’s super balanced and makes it versatile for sweet and savory cocktails, i.e. Bloody Mary’s AND fruity sangrias.

Do Bloody Mary’s help hangovers?
Sort of! Ah, the age-old theory. I’m no hangover doctor but there are some great reasons behind bloody mary’s helping hangovers. Basically, if you’re hoping for this cure, make it extra spicy.
Spicy drinks not only help speed up your metabolism but they also help you produce more sweat which is great for ridding the extra alcohol and toxins in your system. This will also make you more thirsty, which will cause you to drink more water and hydrate which is key for a hangover!
