This Coronarita recipe made with lime, chili, and mezcal is the perfect drink for a hot summer day, a day full of football, or Cinco de Mayo! This drink is made with a crisp corona tipped into a bright, spicy, and smoky margarita, making it as flavorful as it is festive!
Why You’ll Love This Coronarita Recipe
I am wholeheartedly a tequila girl, so margaritas are my thing! Since I’ve tried so many recipes, I consider myself qualified to tell you this is a life-changing margarita. This recipe takes the crisp and bright flavor of a Corona and tips it into the perfect spicy marg which combined makes an incredible beergarita.
If you’re not a beer drinker, this drink – or my Corona Sunrise recipe – will absolutely change your mind. If you can’t be swayed, just go ahead and enjoy the margarita without a Corona in it! As a hostess, you can take inspiration from my Aperol Spritz Bar and make a little assembly line so people can make their own Coronaritas and control what goes into them. Some people may not want much spice in their drinks, so they can leave out the muddled jalapeno slices and chili off the rim!
They look extravagant, but they come together in only five minutes. I hope that these beergaritas bring a smile to your face, whether you’re enjoying them on Super Bowl Sunday, Taco Tuesday, or a gorgeous summer day by the pool.
Ingredients
The ingredients for this recipe are quite simple, but I’m going to be a margarita/tequila geek and explain some of them – just bear with me! All of the ingredient quantities are in the recipe card below.
- Limes – wedges and juice
- Kosher salt + chili powder
- Cointreau – One of the most popular questions I get asked when making this coronarita recipe is, what can I use instead of Triple Sec? My answer is Cointreau! They both have a sweet, orange flavor, but Cointreau is far superior to Triple Sec. I say treat yo’self and go for the good stuff.
- Mezcal or Gold Tequila – I am a tequila girl and I am always looking for new and interesting flavors when it comes to this delicious liquor, so say hello to mezcal! Mezcal (or mescal) is like tequila’s smokier cousin. It’s so much sweeter and richer in taste than any version of regular tequila. Sometimes mezcal can be too powerful for people, so if you are not a Mezcal lover like I am, just replace it with an equal amount of your favorite brand of Tequila!
- Agave nectar
- Jalapeno slices
- Crushed ice
- Corona
How To Make a Beergarita
Step 1: Rim the Glasses
Run a lime wedge against two margarita glass rims and dip in a shallow dish filled with mixed kosher salt and chili powder.
Step 2: Shake Margarita Ingredients
Fill a cocktail shaker full of regular ice and add in lime juice, Cointreau, mezcal, agave nectar, and jalapeno slices, if using, cover, and shake well for 30 seconds.
Step 3: Strain
Fill the two margarita glasses with crushed ice and strain the cocktail mix into the glasses.
Step 4: Add Beer
There should be 1/3 to a 1/2 of room left. Open a small Corona beer and carefully place the bottle into the bottom of the glass. Cheers!

Serving Suggestions
I have a special place in my heart for drinking Coronaritas on Super Bowl Sunday. I guess I had a good time one year and now the habit is ingrained! This list of serving suggestions is curated as though you’re throwing a party, so we can cover all of our football parties and any other festive occasions.
- Since margaritas are Mexican drinks, after all, we should start with Mexican appetizers! I say you make this guacamole for a crowd or these chipotle chicken nachos with avocado crema.
- We also have a game day snack board that’s full of yummy variety.
- Want something nostalgic? Try these cheese fries from Mean Girls. There’s nothing like beer and cheese fries, right?
- Now it’s time for wings! We have honey soy garlic chicken wings, lemon pepper wings, and buffalo chicken bites to choose from.
- You also can’t go wrong with serving dill pickle potato salad as a side.
- It’s not a party without dessert! You can tie in the lime flavors in your drink by serving a key lime cake, or keep things simple by making handheld desserts. These funfetti white chocolate blondies are a crowd pleaser, as are these browned butter dark chocolate chip pretzel cookies.

Yess, I love this! True, Super Bowl is such a massive event, though I’m not sure everyone actually knows the game even though they watch it (at least not here in Norway!).
