How To Make Strawberry Simple Syrup

add water and sugar into the pot

Step 1: Cook

In a small pot, add strawberries, water, and granulated sugar. Stir these ingredients together over medium-high heat until the sugar has dissolved into the water. Then, reduce the heat to low and mash the strawberries together with a spatula. Cook the mixture for an additional 8-10 minutes, but be sure to not overcook or the syrup will become too thick.

FAQs

How long does fruit-infused simple syrup last?

Once you allow the simple syrup to cool to room temperature, it’ll last about 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. You can also freeze it!

Can you freeze simple syrup?

Yes, strawberry simple syrup will freeze well for up to 3 months. Just allow the syrup to cool, put it in a container, and freeze! You could also freeze it in an ice cube tray (then transfer it to a freezer ziploc or container) so that you can thaw small portions at a time. Allow it to thaw overnight in the fridge before using.

What liquor goes well with strawberries?

Strawberry goes well with so many different things – it’s one of the most versatile berries, in my opinion. When it comes to alcohol, you have a few options. You can go for a sweet prosecco, white wine, or rosé to amplify the sweetness of the strawberries. You could also contrast the sweetness with a dry champagne or red wine! It also goes great with plain liquor like vodka, rum, gin, or tequila. Just be mindful of what kind of flavor palate you’re going for.

Should you stir when making simple syrup?

You should absolutely stir the simple syrup mixture pretty vigorously and continuously until the sugar is dissolved. Once it’s dissolved, however, you want to leave the mixture alone to simmer and thicken.

Can you make simple syrup with other fruits?

You sure can! You can make simple syrup with blueberries (any berry, really), lemon, peaches, rosemary, mint, rose, lavender, ginger, vanilla, etc. Whatever floats your boat!
