Why you’ll love this lemon drop shots recipe
Goes down so smooth! The trick is to use fresh lemon juice and your favorite drinking vodka that’s so smooth, you find you can just sip on it. Similar to a lemon drop martini or this Limoncello Martini, but in shot form, this is a restaurant-favorite that you can now make any time you want.
Tart but sweet! The sugared lemon wedge takes this lemon drop shot over the top and gives it an interactive charm. Plus, the sweet sugar and tart citrus balance each other beautifully. Delicious and dangerous.
Add pizzazz to your party! These will be the talk of the party and your friends will light up after one quick shot. Make sure to have some extra lemon juice nearby, as one is not going to be enough!
Ingredients
Lemon drop shot ingredients require nothing more than some fresh citrus fruit and a few staples from your bar cart. To make these in a flash, we will need:
- Vodka
- Simple syrup
- Lemon juice
- Sugar
- Lemon wedges
Measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Ingredient notes & substitutions:
- Vodka: Go for a high quality vodka, like Ketel One, Tito’s or Absolut. Or, feel free to give it an extra citrus kick with Citron vodka.
- Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice will provide the best flavor. You will need about 2-3 lemons to get the amount you need for four shots. Squeeze through a strainer to hold back the pulp and seeds.
- Simple syrup: Either pick up a bottle from the liquor store or make your own!
How to make
This lemon drop shot recipe is ready before you know it! Simply:
Shake: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in vodka, simple syrup and lemon juice. Shake for 20-30 seconds or until icy and very cold.
Pour: Pour evenly into four shot glasses.
Enjoy: Dip each lemon wedge into the sugar and serve each shot glass with a wedge.
Serving suggestions
Nothing says lemon shots more than a party! I make these for all my spring and summer parties, since they are so light and fresh, but any time is the perfect time.
Grab your friends and get ready for a lemony, boozy, sugar-filled time!
How to rim a shot glass with sugar
If you want to get fancy, rim the shot glasses with sugar to add some sparkle. Here’s how to do it:
- Run a lemon wedge around the rim of the shot glass.
- Dip in a shallow plate filled with sugar.
Make it for a crowd
The recipe below makes 4 shots, but you can easily scale the recipe up to make it for a crowd. To double the recipe (8 shots total), you will need:
- 1 1/2 cups (12 oz) vodka
- 2 Tablespoons (1 oz) simple syrup
- 1 cup (8 oz) lemon juice
Recipe tips & notes:
- Shake until the shaker is icy. This makes the shot extra cold and much more enjoyable on the way down.
- If you don’t have simple syrup, you can replace it with 1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar. Just make sure to shake it vigorously to dissolve the sugar.
