Spritz Bianco is a gorgeous, classy, ivory colored jewel with sweet, bitter, bubbly effervescence. It’s an elegant white spritz to up the ante on your spritz cocktails this summer!
Why you’ll love bianco spritz
A spritz to rival the rest! While there is much love to give to the popular Aperol Spritz, the bitter Campari Spritz, and the underrated Hugo Spritz, this Bianco Spritz is light in color, yet just as bold as its colored counterparts.
Elegance is beauty! Beautiful and delicious, with just the right notes of bitter, sweet, bubbly and fun, this white spritz is a new one to add to your repertoire.
Comes together in one glass! Just like all spritz recipes, this one is made in the very same glass you serve in it, in the same 3-2-1 fashion as any traditional spritz. The key is to add the ingredients in the right order for the perfect spritz experience!
What is a spritz Veneziano?
The Spritz Veneziano, ‘Venetian Spritz’, is the universal term for the cocktail that combines Italian bitter liqueur with Prosecco and soda water. Most commonly known as an Italian aperitif, spritz cocktails are enjoyed during apertivo hour with salty snacks and finger foods.
Many versions of the Venetian Spritz exist, but the original was said to have been made with Select – a bittersweet amaro created in Venice in 1920.
What is Luxardo Bitter Bianco?
Luxardo Bitter Bianco comes from the famous Luxardo distillery (known for their maraschino cherries). It is an Italian amaro with herbal, citrus and bitter undertones. It includes:
- Botanicals like gentian, orange and cinchona
- Citrus fruits including grapefruit and lemon
- Roman Absinth (wormwood), which adds to its bitter flavor and ivory color
Look for it in well stocked liquor stores or order it online.
Ingredients
The ingredients for this white spritz is short and simple, but it may require a quick trip to the liquor store for one special ingredient. We will need:
- Luxardo Bitter Bianco
- Prosecco
- Soda water
- Green olives
- Rosemary sprig
- Lemon slices
Ingredient substitutions and notes:
- Luxardo Bitter Bianco: Look for Luxardo Bitter Bianco in well stocked liquor stores, or order it online. You could also try Luxardo Bitter Rosso for a deep, red color.
- Prosecco: Prosecco, or any Italian sparkling wine will do. If you do not want as much effervescence, go for a dry Italian white wine like Pinot Grigio.
- Garnish: Rosemary and lemon really bring out the herbal, citrusy flavors in the drink, whereas green olives are classic and traditional. Just make sure to get olives in brine rather than oil.
Measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
How to make
A Luxardo bianco spritz is just as easy to make as an spritz recipe, but the real fun comes with the garnishes. Here’s how to do it:
Layer ingredients: Add luxardo bitter bianco to a large chilled wine or spritz glass. Fill to the top with ice. Add in 4 oz of prosecco and fill the remainder of the glass with soda water.
Garnish: Garnish with green olives, rosemary sprig and a lemon slice.
How do you serve Bianco
It wouldn’t be a Venetian spritz without the right salty food and bar snacks to go along with it. I love to serve this with:
Recipe tips & notes:
- Chill the wine glass and ingredients first. This makes for an icy cold beverage, perfect for a hot summer’s day.
- Pour the ingredients in the right order. This ensures the drink mixes well.
- Prepare the garnishes. This way, all the ingredients are ready for you to just pour, finish and sip.
- Do not make a pitcher version. The beauty of a spritz lies in its personal preparation. Pour each cocktail into individual wine glasses following the recipe below.
