How to Make a Self-Care Cocktail
Step 1: Muddle
Cut a few cucumber slices (or more if you want extra flavor) and add them to a cocktail shaker along with lime juice, and/or lime slices themselves. Muddle thoroughly to release the flavor.
Step 2: Add Other Ingredients + Shake
Add the basil leaves, tequila, and ice. Then shake to mix the martini until the outside of the shaker is very cold.
Step 3: Garnish + Strain
Strain your cocktail into a martini glass and, optionally, you can peel a couple of cucumbers and skewer them in a zig-zag pattern for garnish. Enjoy!
FAQs
Easy! Follow all the same steps, just omit the tequila. Instead, you can add some soda water (don’t shake it, just stir), still water, a splash of orange juice, lemonade, ginger beer, etc. Cucumber goes well with so many different flavors because it’s so mild, so feel free to try different things. You can take inspo from my mocktail mojito recipe too!
So many different things! Any and all citrus is great with cucumber flavor. I especially enjoy lemon, lime, and orange. You can also add fresh ginger or ginger ale to this cocktail to give it that stomach-settling/medicinal vibe.
Tips & Variations
- I used Persian cucumbers here, but you can muddle a variety of cucumbers for deeper cucumber flavor.
- Swap basil for mint if you want your martini to be even more refreshing!
- Not a fan of tequila? Swap it for vodka or gin instead.
- Use lemon juice instead of lime juice, if you’d like.
- Don’t have a cocktail shaker? Stir your martini instead. You can also use any jar with a lid to shake it up; just use what you have.
- In the same vein, if you don’t have a muddler you can use a large spoon to crush the cucumbers and release their yummy flavor.
Serving Suggestions
Of course, I support drinking this cucumber martini all on its own, but you can also expand your spa-like vibes with a delicious meal or snack.
A salmon quinoa bowl would be a great option, as would an orzo lemon salad or pistachio-crusted salmon salad. They’re all wholesome options that’ll pair well with a light cocktail like this.
If you just want a snack, go for a healthy snack board with creamy avocado dip so you can enjoy a variety of options!
