These Tequila Jello Shots, made with fresh passion fruit puree, are the tropical party cocktail of your dreams! Just mix flavorless gelatin, tequila, and sugar, then let the jello set in the fridge until you’re ready to party. Everyone is going to love this festive treat, so you might want to make a little extra while you’re at it!
Why You’ll Love Passion Fruit Tequila Jello Shots
There’s no better way to energize a crowd than jello shots, right? Whether you start your night with them, use them for a celebratory toast, or throw them back before you head to a bar, jello shots are an undeniable crowd favorite! I mean, I’ve certainly never turned one down!
I used my homemade passion fruit puree to make these shots because I knew the fresh fruity flavor would lend itself perfectly to this treat. So often I’ll just toss a jello shot back without taking in much of the flavor, but this passion fruit version makes me want to truly savor it.
They’re so easy to make too! Make them a couple days ahead of time by mixing together the gelatin mixture, pouring it all into individual cups (or passionfruit halves for extra festive vibes), and then letting it set in the fridge until you’re ready.
They’re easy, delicious, and will pump up the party – what’s not to love?!

Ingredients
Usually, you need three ingredients to make jello shots, gelatin, water, and alcohol, but these aren’t your ordinary jello shots! We’re not using fake fruity gelatin, we’re using actual fresh fruit to get that yummy burst of passion fruit.
- Water
- Sugar
- Gelatin – unflavored
- Passion fruit puree
- Blanco tequila
- Tajin – optional, but delicious!
How to Make Tequila Jello Shots
Step 1: Make Gelatin
- Add water and sugar to a small sauce pot and heat the mixture over medium-low heat.
- Whisk it together until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is clear, then remove from the heat.
- Pour the sugar water mixture into a large glass bowl or measuring glass.
- Stir in the gelatin powder until it’s fully dissolved.
- Add in the passion fruit puree and blanco tequila and stir together.
Step 2: Set Gelatin
Pour the mixture into small jello cups or into passion fruit halves. Place them in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or until jello shots are set.
Step 3: Garnish
This is optional, but I suggest garnishing your shots with a sprinkle of tajin before serving. It adds a little spicy vibe that pairs well with the fruit.
FAQs
It’s really up to you! Vodka is typically the most popular because it goes with anything, but you can use your favorite alcohol or whatever pairs best with the kind of shot you’re making. For example, rum would be great if you were using pineapple flavors!
You can always do the old-fashioned finger trick to loosen the shot right before enjoying it, but you can also spray the cups with cooking spray before pouring in the mixture.
They’ll last in the fridge for 3-5 days, so you can easily make them in advance! Make sure to keep them covered so the flavors stay fresh.
Serving Suggestions
I don’t know about you, but jello shots feel like an appetizer/light snacks kind of party to me. I’m just saying, we’re probably not sitting down for a plated dinner party if we’re having jello shots (although you could, I’m not judging!). Here are some of my favorite apps that I think would be great to snack on as you’re enjoying your jello.
- Charcuterie bites are everything you want in a charcuterie board but in one bite!
- You can’t go wrong with olive oil and balsamic bread dip and a crusty sourdough for soaking it all up.
- You can use your sourdough to enjoy a burrata caprese app too!
- Speaking of cheese, these Mean Girls-inspired cheese fries are absolutely devourable. They’ll be gone in minutes!
- Make this quick and easy air fryer pigs in a blanket recipe and you’ll be everyone’s favorite person at the party.
