Why You’ll Love Passion Fruit Tequila Jello Shots

There’s no better way to energize a crowd than jello shots, right? Whether you start your night with them, use them for a celebratory toast, or throw them back before you head to a bar, jello shots are an undeniable crowd favorite! I mean, I’ve certainly never turned one down!

I used my homemade passion fruit puree to make these shots because I knew the fresh fruity flavor would lend itself perfectly to this treat. So often I’ll just toss a jello shot back without taking in much of the flavor, but this passion fruit version makes me want to truly savor it.

They’re so easy to make too! Make them a couple days ahead of time by mixing together the gelatin mixture, pouring it all into individual cups (or passionfruit halves for extra festive vibes), and then letting it set in the fridge until you’re ready.

They’re easy, delicious, and will pump up the party – what’s not to love?!

Usually, you need three ingredients to make jello shots, gelatin, water, and alcohol, but these aren’t your ordinary jello shots! We’re not using fake fruity gelatin, we’re using actual fresh fruit to get that yummy burst of passion fruit.

  • Sugar
  • Gelatin – unflavored
  • Passion fruit puree
  • Blanco tequila
  • Tajin – optional, but delicious!

Step 2: Set Gelatin

Pour the mixture into small jello cups or into passion fruit halves. Place them in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or until jello shots are set.

Step 3: Garnish

This is optional, but I suggest garnishing your shots with a sprinkle of tajin before serving. It adds a little spicy vibe that pairs well with the fruit.

FAQs

what is the best alcohol for jello shots?

It’s really up to you! Vodka is typically the most popular because it goes with anything, but you can use your favorite alcohol or whatever pairs best with the kind of shot you’re making. For example, rum would be great if you were using pineapple flavors!

how do I make it easier for jello shots to come out?

You can always do the old-fashioned finger trick to loosen the shot right before enjoying it, but you can also spray the cups with cooking spray before pouring in the mixture.

how long will jello shots last?

They’ll last in the fridge for 3-5 days, so you can easily make them in advance! Make sure to keep them covered so the flavors stay fresh.

Serving Suggestions

I don’t know about you, but jello shots feel like an appetizer/light snacks kind of party to me. I’m just saying, we’re probably not sitting down for a plated dinner party if we’re having jello shots (although you could, I’m not judging!). Here are some of my favorite apps that I think would be great to snack on as you’re enjoying your jello.
