Ingredients

mozzarella, prosciutto, balsamic glaze, melon, and wooden skewers

These skewers are wildly simple to make and they only require four ingredients, plus the glaze! Each ingredient plays a pivotal role in the texture and flavor of this yummy appetizer, so don’t leave anything out!

  • Cantaloupe (scooped out as balls)
  • Basil leaves
  • Mozzarella balls
  • Prosciutto slices
  • Balsamic glaze

Use a small cookie scoop or melon baller to get your cantaloupe the right shape/size!

How to Make Melon Appetizer Skewers

This snack isn’t even complicated enough to require steps! Just assemble your skewers in the following order:

add melon and prosciutto to a skewer
  1. Cantaloupe ball
  2. Prosciutto ribbon
  3. Mozzarella ball
  4. Basil leaf
  5. Cantaloupe ball
Add the mozzarella and drizzle balsamic on top

And then drizzle the whole thing with balsamic glaze before serving! Enjoy!

FAQs

how do you know when a cantaloupe is ripe?

There are a few ways to tell! First, touch the melon. It should be firm with a little bit of give. Next, the color should be tan/orange, not green. And finally, smell the blossom end (where the stem was attached). It should be sweet. All of those elements combined mean your cantaloupe is ready to eat!

can I make these skewers ahead of time?

This appetizer is best served fresh, but you can store them covered in the fridge overnight if necessary. Don’t add the balsamic until right before serving, though!

Variations & Suggestions

  • You can use a variety of melons if you want! Cantaloupe is my favorite, but honeydew and watermelon could also work here.
  • Switch up the order. Do you like more or less prosciutto? Or maybe you’re a big cheese lover and need it in every bite in spades! Simply add more, or put mozzarella between every other ingredient. It’s up to you.
  • Fan of the classics? Swap the melon for tomatoes to make these classic Caprese skewers.
  • If you don’t have skewers, or you’re just not looking to scoop melon balls, chop everything up and toss it in a bowl like a salad.
  • Plus, if you do it that way, you can play around with different cheeses that wouldn’t hold structure for a skewer (ie: feta, goat cheese, burrata).
